Photography

I have been taking lots of photos ever since buying a digital camera in 1999.

One of the first ones I took was while travelling the English Lakes District towards the Scottish Border.

Taking the time to shoot the aspects of the world around me that catch my eye helps me to try and see things in different ways, from different angles. And to take the time to enjoy the what’s around me.

The following examples were all taken on my walk to work from a free parking spot. When there’s something to enjoy along the way, it takes more than the 20mins if I were just concentrating on getting there. But the mind wanders …

Tauranga Estuary, Bay of Plenty, New Zealand
I took a couple of this view, trying to nail the more interesting viewpoint with the pathway on the left.
I think I got it better in the shot above
I had just parked my car across the road from Memorial Park on Devonport Road in Tauranga at 7am and I saw a golden sunrise colour coming through the trees between the park and the estuary (via the water reflection)

Combining Interests

I used to play rugby and I enjoy the atmosphere and faced-paced action of the seven-a-side format.

I spent 3-4 years writing, travelling and shooting at various rugby tournaments.

I’ve sold a few shots and had a few published …

Panoramas

I was involved in one of the first panoramic photography apps for the iPhone back in 2007 (aptly named ‘Panorama’) and continue to enjoy shooting panoramas.

It can be fun experimenting with photo stitching.

Then there’s combining panoramas and rugby …
