For me the most improtant thing has been a combination of hot and cold temperatures
I start every single morning in the freezing water
I do it for 2 reasons:
It moves every bit of blood in your body and lynph in your system; and also train my brain to say: ‘When I say go, we go!’

Dr. Andrew Huberman notes tbe followimg benefits about the use of cold showers and plunges:
- Cold exposure induces an acute stress response. This is characterized by an immediate increase in norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter that plays a role in alertness and attention. This acute stress can help train the body’s ability to handle stress in other contexts.
- The release of norepinephrine can lead to increased mental clarity and alertness, which is why some people feel invigorated after a cold shower or plunge.
- Cold exposure can potentially enhance mood. The release of norepinephrine, combined with other physiological responses, can lead to feelings of euphoria post-cold exposure.
- Thermogenesis: Cold exposure can activate brown adipose tissue (BAT), which is a type of fat that generates heat. This process can have metabolic benefits and has been studied for potential implications in weight management.
- Cold exposure might have anti-inflammatory effects, which can be beneficial for recovery after physical activity.
